Project Overview
Another small 'Sidelines' project, based around an imaginary crafts-based practice making all things utensil and wood-based.
The notion came while visiting various small sawmills - there are half a dozen around me, based in the beech woods - and they're properly amazing old places.
Some have been there since the late 1940's, others probably longer and part of a history of charcoal-making, bodging and general woodland living that's been hereabouts for centuries.
But while they're machining at a (modest) industrial scale, the smell and atmosphere could easily be decanted into a small makers woodshop... and Tokers Green's a real place near me.
My contribution to this
As a result, here we have the imaginary 'Fellworks' (who would hear a tree falling in the woods), who I imagine take the storm-downed ancient timber (hence the tree-ring and natural knots and imperfections of trunks and boughs) and transform it into useful and usable art.
